Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
Frank Valentine began working with National Counseling Group
in May 2003. He has extensive knowledge and experience working
with at risk youth and adults in both community and residential
corrections since 1995. After being honorably discharged
from the United States Marine Corps in 1993, Frank became
the Director of the Life Structure Training Program in Carteret
County, NC. He implemented various treatment, educational,
and work interventions with intermediate level offenders
in order to influence their decision making process. By developing
relationships with local mental health agencies, self-help
groups, the local Community College, and Treatment Alternatives
to Street Crime (TASC), effective wrap around services were
provided to offenders in the community, which diverted them
from incarceration and out of home placements. Also, he has
reputable experience screening, assessing, and counseling
at risk youth involved with the juvenile justice system.
He joins NCG after three years with the Virginia Department
of Juvenile Justice. Frank provided individual, group, and
family counseling, as well as substance abuse services, while
working in the positions of Rehabilitation Counselor and
Juvenile Probation Officer. Clinically, Frank received formal
training in Cognitive Behavioral Treatment and incorporates
this model when working with clients with substance use and/or
mental health disorders. Academically, Frank received his
Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Virginia
Commonwealth University. His research focused on effective
substance abuse treatment interventions for court invovled
youth and adults. As a passionate and dedicated professional,
Frank believes change can be facilitated through proper guidance,
support, and motivation. In his personal time, Frank enjoys
an active lifestyle by trail running, mountain biking, water
skiing, and spending time with his family.
