Bobbie Jo Seamster is currently
the Senior Clinical Supervisor with the National Counseling
Group-Martinsville, VA office.
Bobbie Jo graduated in 1996,
with an Associates of Arts and Science from Patrick Henry Community
College majoring in psychology.
She then graduated with a Bachelors
of Science in College and Community Counseling through Averett
University in May 1998, where she also completed her internship
at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation working with Alzheimer patients
and their families. At
Averett University, Bobbie Jo majored in clinical psychology, behavioral research
and minored in photography.
In Dec. 2002, she graduated from Longwood University
with a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, where she
also completed her internship with Martinsville Hospital on
the inpatient psychiatric unit. At Martinsville Hospital, Bobbie
Jo conducted many groups for substance abuse and dually diagnosed
patients. She also worked with Hospice at Martinsville Hospital
conducting bereavement counseling to families.
Bobbie Jo later attended Liberty University in Lynchburg for
further professional development. In June 2007, Bobbie Jo received
her LPC (licensed professional counselor) from the Commonwealth
of Virginia. Upon her continuation for professional development,
in Dec. 2007 she received her LPC in the State of North Carolina
as well.
During her years in graduate school, she worked at the Department
of Social Services in Martinsville for five years, where she
was a social worker and child abuse investigator. Bobbie Jo
was later promoted to senior social worker.
Upon receiving her
Masters degree in clinical psychology, Bobbie Jo began her
employment with the community service board in Martinsville.
She conducted outpatient counseling to children, adolescents
and their families for five years. She also helped developed
a free state funded program to children who were victims of
child abuse. Bobbie Jo provided trauma and grief counseling
to these children over a period of 2 years through the state
grant. She has extensive knowledge with Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder, Bereavement, and sexual abuse. She has been to extensive
trainings on sexual abuse, Bipolar, ADHD, trauma, grief, personality
disorders, anxiety and depression. She is also had many trainings
on play therapy, cognitive behavioral and family therapies.
Bobbie Jo has
a husband, child, four dogs and one cat at home. She enjoys
the beach, shopping, spending time with family and friends, reading, crafts,
playing with children, and relaxing.
Believing in the values of NCG, Bobbie
Jo is dedicated to providing quality services to the adults,
children, adolescents, and their families. She continues
to have faith and hope of positive changes.
