National Counseling Group, Inc and Boy Scouts of America partner to help youth on the Shore
Exmore,VA – The National Counseling Group, Inc, (NCG) has recently partnered with the Boy Scouts of America here on the Eastern Shore. Thomas W. Minnick, President and CEO of NCG, believes in embracing every community they work in through supporting charitable organizations and events.
In the spirit of giving back, NCG has recently made a $1000 donation to the local Friends of Scouting Fundraising campaign. There are over 400 scouts here on the Shore, and this donation will provide financial assistance for some of these youth to attend summer camp, purchase uniforms and supplies, or assist in other areas of need.
Mr. Dennis K. Raabe, Site Director for NCG’s Exmore office, stated, “I have been with this company for over 7 years and we always look for ways to help local organizations which are involved with young people. NCG’s mission statement is ‘To alleviate suffering, and improve lives’, and this donation is a great opportunity to partner with the Boy Scouts of America, and help the youth here on the Shore.” In addition to the office in Exmore, NCG, which has been in existence since 1993, has 16 offices throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, providing mental health and substance abuse services to children, adolescents, and adults as well as Treatment Foster Care Services.
For more information on donating to the Friends of Scouting Fundraising campaign, please contact the BSA District Executive Brian Misener at 1-800-766-SCOUT ext 208.

NCG's Newport News site has continued the company's mission to improve lives and alleviate suffering this holiday season in several ways. Apart from our daily work with our clients in the community, the management staff in Newport News, including Holly Duggan, Site Director, and Clinical Supervisors, Karen Matthews, Nakia Jones, Crystal Kittrell, and Tina Washington, were recognized in the Daily Press, a local newspaper, for our $500 donation to the Daily Press Holiday Fund this year. This fund, developed by the McCormick Foundation, helps families who are struggling against tough economic, social, and environmental factors by providing grant funds to local nonprofit organizations to support the purchase of food, clothing, and toys for those in need and safety and shelter for the abused. In addition to the $500 from NCG, the McCormick Foundation matches all donations at fifty cents for every dollar donated.
NCG has historically gone above and beyond for our clients themselves, which has been a custom for staff of the Newport News site as well. A staff request was granted by Ms. Duggan to sponsor a family of four siblings to enroll in Hampton's Marching Elites program in December, which will allow those children the opportunity to travel across the country to perform in many high profile events, such as the Kentucky Derby, Indy 500, West Virginia Strawberry Festival, Holiday parades, and performances at Walt Disney World. The program is specifically developed to build self-esteem, teach proper etiquette at formal events, and promote positive social skills in the youth who participate while opening their eyes to different environments and positive peers. These youth gain a sense of belonging and accomplishment as they meet weekly to practice in Hampton. Many of the youth enrolled would not otherwise have the chance to leave their local communities if it weren't for programs like this one!
In November, Ms. Duggan granted another staff's request to sponsor a pair of sisters, both NCG clients, to enroll in Girl Scouts of America by purchasing their uniforms. This family is very needy financially and has very little opportunity to afford special activities or incentives for the children. Through the girls' participation in Girl Scouts, they will learn important life skills with exposure to constructive extracurricular activities, helping others, positive peers, and positive role models. Doors will be opened and resources made available to these children through their association with this national organization, which without NCG, they would not have been able to join.
