Ms. Matthews joined the team at National Counseling Group, Inc. in February 2007, shortly after the opening of the Newport News office. Ms. Matthews provided home-based counseling to youth and families in the Newport News area for 8 months before her promotion to Clinical Supervisor of the Newport News site. In June 2009, Ms. Matthews was offered a Site Director position at the Virginia Beach site.
Ms. Matthews brings expertise to the National Counseling Group in the areas of youth and family counseling, substance abuse counseling, and sex-offender counseling from her experience at the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents, Whisper Ridge Behavioral Health Systems, and The Pines Residential Treatment Center. Ms. Matthews attended The College of William and Mary for her undergraduate studies, where she graduated with honors in Psychology and Biology. While at the College of William and Mary, Ms. Matthews was the president of Psi Chi, the National Psychology Honor Society. Ms. Matthews attended the University of Virginia for her graduate studies, where she earned her M.Ed/Ed.S degree in Mental Health Counseling. Ms. Matthews also became a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the National Honors Society for Counseling.
Ms. Matthews’ specialties include motivational interviewing, administering/scoring/interpreting the SASSI, and conducting psychosexual assessments, substance abuse evaluations, and mental status examinations. She is currently under licensure supervision for her LPC license and CSOTP certification.
